Frieda Murray reviewing for Booklist said that this novel was 'the best sofar in this Turtledove series, with charactersthat you care about and action that while grim , is plausible andengaging.'^[1]PublishersWeekly in their review said 'Turtledove delivers lessons onracism and diplomacy for a young adult audience.'^[2]
