What's old is new again. The current-generation Ram 1500 will live on for at least a few more months, repackaged as a new 'Classic' model to be sold alongside the brand-new 2019 truck. But unlike other 'classic' carryover models like the Nissan Rogue Select or Volkswagen Tiguan Limited, this one wasn't exactly planned.
See, the 2019 Ram 1500 currently finds itself in a sort of 'production hell,' according to Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne. As we previously reported, the new truck's Sterling Heights Assembly plant outside Detroit is 'probably running today at 60 percent of cycle.' This facility is said to be running seven days a week with two 10-hour shifts each day, and is expected to be churning out trucks at full tilt for the next several months in order to meet customer demand.
The Classic is a catch-all name and for 2019 swaps its 2018-spec dual P-90s for ’61 Zebras and adds the circuit board previously used on the Standard, along with Traditional (aka nine-hole) weight relief. A number of factors, including supplier difficulties, have led to the slow ramp-up of 2019 Ram 1500 production. As of now, new model deliveries have largely been limited to trucks equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8. Ram's new E-Torque mild-hybrid system -- standard on V6 models and optional with the V8 -- does not yet seem to be in production.
Thus, enter the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, a carryover version of the 2018 model that will continue to be produced at both the automaker's Warren, Michigan and Saltillo, Mexico plants.
'As we launch the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, we didn't want to walk away from a key part of the light-duty truck market. Ram will continue to produce the 1500 Classic targeted at entry and commercial buyers,' brand head Mike Manley said in an official statement.
Ram will offer the 1500 Classic in value-focused Tradesman, Express, Big Horn, Lone Star and SSV (Special Services Vehicle) trims, with a choice of two- or four-wheel drive. These trucks can be ordered in Regular, Quad and Crew Cab configurations, with three different bed lengths. Powertrain options include FCA's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and even a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, which will come online again at a later date.
While Fiat-Chrysler hasn't yet stopped production on 2018 model year Ram 1500 trucks, the new 2019 Classic model won't officially go on sale until the fourth quarter of 2018. As of now, Ram expects to produce the 1500 Classic through the end of the 2018 calendar year.
Nero Video is decent video editing software. Its two editing modules allow you to choose which style of editing is right for you. It contains a healthy selection of effects, transitions, video enhancements and more. But because of its unique workflow, you may need to take some hours to fully understand how it all works.
This video editing application has two editing modules: Express Editing and Advanced Editing. The difference between these two modes is essentially the same as that between timeline editing and storyboard editing. In fact, the storyboard-timeline dynamic is the defining difference between the two modules. This is standard fare for video editing software; one main difference in Nero Video, however, is that you cannot switch back and forth between the two modes. You can build a video project in Express Editing (storyboard) mode and switch to Advanced Editing (timeline) with your project intact. However, once you make a single edit in the Advanced module, you cannot return to the Express mode.
Nero Video has a long list of great video editing tools to construct a compelling video. In the Advanced mode, you can add unlimited editing tracks, which provides flexibility to create complex projects. It has a library with hundreds of effects, transitions and other objects that enable you to enhance your audio and video so you get the exact look and feel you want. However, the interface, workflow and organizational structure are occasionally confusing and counterintuitive, especially for users who have some previous experience with video editing software and are used to a different layout.
When you’ve completed your video project, Nero Video offers several ways to get it in front of an audience. You can choose to create a stand-alone video file for your computer. It exports in the most popular file formats like MP4, WMV and AVI. You can also upload finished videos directly to YouTube. Additionally, you can create DVD and Blu-ray discs of your video to share with family and friends. It does not, however, have the ability to optimize your video for playback on specific devices like smartphones, tablets and gaming consoles – something nearly all the other video editing programs we reviewed can do.
One thing to note about Nero Video is that it doesn’t compress files well. In our test, we created a 40-second test video project. The final results looked good, but when we compressed a large video file into a smaller resolution, we noted major distortion, pixelation, motion blur and other imperfections in the picture that would distract anyone watching the video. The best video quality we encountered was in our top pick, CyberLink PowerDirector.
Nero provides loads of online support for all its products, including Nero Video, but it's somewhat difficult to find – the support link is buried at the bottom of the homepage. This link gives you access to a knowledgebase and a FAQs forum. There is an option to call technical support, but it costs $1.29 per minute, and the number itself is somewhat difficult to find.
Nero Video is basic video editing software. It provides the essential tools that to create videos and share them with an audience. However, its ability to compress videos is shoddy and it lacks the intuitive usability that separates good video editing applications from the best.
