If your USB MIDI device is not being recognized by your computer, consider the following:

Windows

What to do if your MIDI device is not connecting to your Mac; Additional resources. Testing to see if a MIDI device is recognized on Mac. Open Spotlight by pressing Command + Spacebar, or clicking the magnifying glass in the top right corner of your desktop. Type in Audio MIDI Setup. Hit Enter or select Audio MIDI Setup from the list. Two windows should open the Audio Devices, and MIDI Studio. I have a Studiologic Numa which connects via USB. For some reason when I connect the USB cable it powers on the keyboard but mac does not recognize it at all, and Audio Midi Setup is useless when I ask it to rescan midi. This is a brand new macbook pro running Snow Leopard. Oddly enough, it works fine with my old macbook running Leopard. I shut down my system unplugged the USB keyboard plugged in APS to type keyboard rebooted the system Windows 10 still do not recognize the keyboard. I then plugged in the USB device again restart of the system still the same problem Windows 10 does not recognize my keyboard I uninstalled the drivers for key all keyboards shut down and restarted.

Check the Windows Device Manager to see if your device (or any new devices) appear. MIDI devices should appear in the Sound, video and game controllers category. If they appear with a yellow question mark or exclamation point, right-click and choose to update the driver.

Mac

For devices that require a driver, disconnect the device, uninstall the drivers, repair disk permissions, then re-install the latest drivers. Repair disk permission is done using the Disk Utility which can be found in the Applications>Utilities folder. Open that up and select your System Drive (usually labeled Macintosh HD), click the First Aid tab and click Repair Disk Permissions.

General
  • Try connecting to different USB ports, then check the Device Manager again
  • If your device is connected to a USB hub, try connecting it directly to ports on the computer. Alternatively, if the device isn’t being recognized on the built-in ports, try connecting to a USB hub
  • Test the device on a different computer

Note: If you are using a long USB cable, try a shorter cable.
